What does listening make possible? The easiest way to answer might be to say what is lost in a conversation when no one is listening: understanding, clarity, new ideas, money, relationships, and healthy debate – perhaps even peace, care, and prosperity. In a society based on people having their voice be heard, it might even be appropriate to say that an absence of listening very literally threatens the role of a citizen.
What would a relationship, a family, a community, a state, a nation or a world be like if quality listening was the norm? What if a critical mass of people worked to convene spaces of conversation, exploration, and constructive debate by modeling the type of real listening that makes such interactions make a difference?
The Be Listening Project is OrangeBand’s major effort to create spaces for quality listening- and it focuses on supporting a critical mass of people and organizations like you and yours to make a commitment to practice listening for one year.
